LABOUR leadership hopeful Sir Keir Starmer is visiting Batley and Spen on Friday at the invite of local MP, Tracy Brabin.

The Shadow Brexit Secretary, who Ms Brabin has nominated in the Labour leadership bid, will visit a nursery and food bank before speaking to Labour supporters and constituents at Batley Community centre.

Ms Brabin, Shadow Secretary of State for the Department of Digital, Media, Culture and Sport, was among the first MPs to give Mr Starmer her backing in the leadership race.

She said: “I’m delighted to be welcoming Keir to Batley and Spen on Friday.

“I’m backing him to be the next Labour leader because I’ve seen first-hand how he can rebuild the party after our devastating election result.

“He is extremely experienced after a distinguished legal career and during his years in Parliament, and his meticulous eye for detail is the best way to hold Boris Johnson to account.

“We need a strong, united Labour Party to hold this Government to account and regain the trust of voters who turned away from our policies at the last election.”
