HEAVY traffic is building on the M62 this afternoon due to a 'technology issue'.
The problem meant Highways England struggled to open smart motorways as a running lane, resulting in delays to travel time and building queues.
It is expected to add 15 minutes extra travel time onto journeys.
The following areas are now fixed: the M62 East junction 26 near Bradford, Chain Bar and the M606 to Junction 27 Gildersome.
But the agency is still unable to open the other smart motorways - or dynamic hardshoulder - on the M62 this time.
Traffic is continuing to build.
A spokesperson for Highways England said: "We currently have a technology issue on the M62 so we are unable to open the dynamic hardshoulder as a running lane. This is resulting in heavy congestion.
"We are working hard to get this resolved ASAP."
