BRADFORD Council will be asked to get tougher on Bradford drivers who blatantly park on the district’s pavements.

At a full Council meeting on Tuesday, Councillor Alun Griffiths (Lib Dem, Idle and Thackley) will put forward a motion calling for stricter rules to prevent pavement parking.

Parts of the district are regularly blighted by vehicles blocking pavements. Entrances to schools through the district at dropping off and picking up time are a major issue, and pavements along Leeds Road can become almost filled with cars in the evening.

Cllr Griffiths motion calls for a public space protection order to be introduced to tackle the issue - making it easier for the Council and police to take action against pavement parkers.

The motion he will bring before the Full Council says: “This Council believes that parking on pavements is ‘detrimental to the quality of life of those in the locality,’ especially the elderly, disabled and those with young children. This Council therefore resolves to request the Regulatory and Appeals committee to consider if this problem could be addressed by making a public space protection order prohibiting parking on pavements.”

The Council meets in City Hall at 4pm.
