RUBBISH which has been dumped in a Bradford Street has been set on fire three times since November, a resident has said

The resident fears nearby properties are in danger if the waste isn’t moved and further fires get out of control.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said up to 80 bins bags of rubbish and other items had been dumped in a back alley between Woodhall Road and Woodhall Avenue, in the Thornbury area of the city, weeks ago. Although she has reported it, it was never moved and has been set fire to several times.

“It is near the back of a friend’s house between their gate and a neighbour’s property and has been going on since November, she said.

“I’ve called the police

and the fire service. The fire service keeps coming out and putting the fire out but the rubbish is still there.

“Those living there are worried that if the areas isn’t cleared and is set alight again the fire could spread and get out of hand. It could be a really dangerous situation.

“I’ve phoned the council on several occasions and they say it is an environmental health issue and I’ve got no further.

“My daughter has phoned them too. She’s also pulled out some old bank statements from one of the bags with the name and address of someone from Pudsey on them which she is passing to the authorities.

“It could easily be someone who has paid a person in good faith to take rubbish away legally and they have dumped it here instead. There really is a lot of stuff. There are doors, cannisters, dirty nappies and things so it is a health hazard too as well as looking an eyesore.

“There’s an old fireplace which has turned up now. It’s a disgrace and people shouldn’t have to live with this near them. Why people dump rubbish I don’t know. Why can’t they dispose of it sensibly themselves?”

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they had attended a ‘fire in the open’ at an address in Woodhall Road, and extinguished it using one pump.

A spokesman for Bradford Council said. “Our neighbourhood team is now aware of this fly tipping and it will be dealt with appropriately as soon as possible. Householders can be fined up to £5,000 and get a criminal record if their rubbish is found to be fly tipped even if they paid someone else to move it.

“Residents can take excess waste to their local household waste recycling centre. If you do see fly-tipping taking place, please note down as many details as possible, including vehicle licence plate numbers and inform the Council on 01274 431000 or online at www.bradford.gov.uk.
