A MAN is to appear in court tomorrow following a shooting incident over the weekend. 

It happened in West Denton, Newcastle, on Saturday, Northumbria Police said and prompted an operation in Bradford

The force launched an investigation after reports a “suspected gun” was fired on a residential street at 3pm.

Northumbria Police said 31-year-old Nathan Mackay was charged with possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life. 

He will appear before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court today. It comes after the force said a 31-year-old man was arrested following a police operation in Bradford city centre.

A spokesperson said: “We were first alerted to the incident on Saturday evening when the occupant of an address on the street reported that their window had been damaged.

“Officers attended the scene to investigate and concluded that the damage was believed to have been caused by a firearm.”

On Monday, five people were arrested during an operation in Cowgate, Newcastle, and a further two arrests were made in an operation in Bradford on Tuesday evening.

Detective Superintendent Dave Cole is leading the investigation and has continued to appeal for any other witnesses to come forward.

He said: “Investigations of this nature are very fast moving because we are dealing with such serious offences.

“Anyone who is found to be responsible is facing being put before the courts and sent to prison for a long time so if you know what happened come forward and speak to police.”

Two men, aged 60 and 59, and two woman, aged 38 and 39, have been released under investigation after being arrested on Monday.

A 36-year-old man arrested on Monday has been released with no further action. 

During the operation in Bradford, a 30-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 101 quoting log 944 04/01/20 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
