Nowadays popping down to the gym after a hard day’s work is a commonplace event. With an abundance of fitness apps, 24-hour gyms, and a vast amount of celebrity endorsed diets, getting fit has never been easier, or has it?
Judging by this picture taken in 1973 at Woodside Community Centre, past generations were pretty much a fit bunch. Pictured is 90-year-old Emily Shemilt, showing the youngsters how it should be done.

In 1972, under the direction of Ivy Dutson, 51 members of the Yorkshire Keep Fit Association were ready to take their perfected fitness demonstration all the way to London’s Albert Hall, London.
