10 years ago, sub-zero temperatures and heavy snow falls caused widespread disruption during one of the coldest winters in 30 years.
Leeds-Bradford Airport was closed for six hours, Bradford Theatres had to cancel a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk and many of Bradford’s city centre shops were forced to close early.
The country was also facing a national shortage in rock salt, leaving many of the district’s main roads and footpaths untreated.
The cold snap, which had started mid-December, was the longest since 1981.
