PLANS to build 14 homes near protected woodland in Baildon have been withdrawn.

Steadman Brierley had submitted the application for housing on land off Walker Wood, near Shipley Glen.

The scheme would be a cul-de-sac made up of four and five bedroom houses.

The company's application says the site is currently scrub land, but has previously been allocated as a potential housing site.

There had been objections from over 100 residents, and several officers and experts.

The Woodland Trust objected "on the basis of damage to Walker Wood, an Ancient Semi Natural Woodland."

Bradford Council's Biodiversity Team also objected, saying: "The site is adjacent to an ancient woodland and Shipley Glen and a development at this site may impact on these features or protected species."

And the Council's World Heritage Officer objected due to the lack of any statement detailing how the development will impact on Saltaire.

The application has now been withdrawn by the applicants.
