PLANS to turn a former carpet showroom in Liversedge into a nursery and out of school club look set to be approved next week.

The scheme, which is one the junction of the busy Leeds Road and Holme Street, is being recommended for approval despite concerns about the parking and whether the location is suitable for a nursery.

Kirklees Council planners believe the scheme is acceptable, subject to a number of conditions, including one to implement a car parking management plan.

Highways initially raised some concerns over how the parking and drop-off spaces would operate, given they spaces would be used for the flats on the upper floor of the building, and a neighbouring firm.

Officers believe there is justification for a total of 25 parking spaces to be required for the new business to successfully operate.

Their report adds that the impact on local roads "is not a significant concern given the scale and the nature of the proposed development".

The change of use application is expected to be approved by the Heavy Woollen Planning Sub-committee on January 9, when it next meets.
