THIS is what a new care home in Shipley could look like if plans are given the go ahead.

Proposals to demolish an existing, vacant industrial unit at Canal Works, Victoria Street, and build a 66-bed care home along with ancillary accommodation have been lodged with Bradford Council by Leeds-based Torsion Care Limited.

Documents submitted with the application say: "This site has been identified as suitable for a new care home, being ideally situated within the conurbation of Shipley.

"The site lies close to residential properties with excellent accessibility to public transport, amenities and local services, including Shipley centre with its shops, transport links and local amenities."

It adds: "The existing buildings on the site are somewhat of an eyesore, having fallen into a state of disrepair over recent years.

"The care home proposed is a purpose-built, three storey, 66-bed residential care facility for older people with associated access, parking and landscaping which will present attractive frontages to both Victoria Street to the west and the Leeds Liverpool canalside to the south."

It says the proposed care home has been "considerately designed and sited so as to reflect and draw upon architectural features from its nearby environment".

"The palette of materials used for the proposed building are respectful of the earlier examples of traditionally constructed masonry buildings facing it to the south across the Leeds-Liverpool canal," says the planning application.

It says the proposals are considered to "present no issues for the setting of the World Heritage Site and that this application also looks to positively enhance the quality of built environment in this location".

The application says Torsion Care is "renowned for delivering high quality, residential care homes creating a caring environment which is designed to promote independence".

It says: "All our homes are developed to be fit-for-purpose and future-proofed with every thought given to the well-being of our residents.

"Torsion Care has developed a series of care homes specifically to meet the needs and

care of older people in a number of locations across Yorkshire and boasts many well known national care providers amongst its clients."

Fifty part-time jobs are expected to be created if the development goes ahead.

A determination deadline for the application has been set for March 18 of this year. View the application by searching reference 19/04692/MAF at planning.bradford.gov.uk.
