FIREFIGHTERS have been damping down the ruins of a cottage in Idle that was devastated by fire early this morning.

The fire spread to two adjacent properties in Stansfield Place, off Westfield Lane, at about 6am today.

Six fire crews attended the blaze in the terraced house.

No-one was injured in the incident.

A neighbour said she and her husband were woken by the sound of crackling and banging.

She said: "When I looked outside I could see smoke so we went straight outside and saw the house so we rang the fire brigade straight away and they confirmed the we're already in attendance.

"My husband drove to Westfield Lane and spoke to the fire crew as he was worried they'd not located the property but they said they could access the property using vehicles so were using hoses.

"Very scary. Just glad everyone is safe."

A structural engineer has reportedly been to inspect the building and said it is recoverable.

The fire spread across to neighbouring homes by the roof.

There was a report of persons being involved in the incident but West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said that after a thorough search all persons were accounted for.

On arrival crews made the incident pumps six due to compromised access.

Three large jets, four breathing apparatus and four hose reels were used to tackle the blaze.

The cause is under investigation.

The incident was attended by crews from Shipley, two from Bradford, Rawdon. Stanningley and Fairweather Green.
