A Slovakian national accused of causing the death of a Bradford police officer by dangerous driving has been granted bail by a judge today.

Jan Tokar, 20, of Sunningdale, Fairweather Green, Bradford, was charged after PC Ian Walker, 51, a traffic officer in the Bradford North division, died in an horrific crash while riding his motorbike to work last month.

Tokar, who also faces an allegation of driving without insurance, was originally remanded in custody by Bradford magistrates following the fatal collision involving his Nissan Almera in Bolton Road.

Judge Peter Benson, sitting at Bradford Crown Court, granted Tokar bail on stringent conditions.

Tokar must reside at his home address and report to the police three times a week.

He is also prohibited from applying for travel documents and his mother is putting forward a security with the court of £5,000.

Tokar will next appear at the crown court on January 7 for a plea and case management hearing and his trial has been set to take place on February 25.
