BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed a person hit by a train at the weekend "died at the scene".

Officers were called to an area of railway in Burley in Wharfedale, at around 12:40pm on Saturday, December 21, to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A BTP spokesperson said: "Sadly, a woman aged in her 30s died at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."

On the day, a Northern Rail spokesperson said a person had been struck at Duck Lane crossing.

Trains were suspended between Ilkley and Leeds, as well as and Ilkley and Bradford, while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Rail replacement buses were in operation.
