A CONSULTANT doctor from Bradford was crowned one of Zoe Ball's Christmas heroes on BBC Radio 2.

Listeners to the show nominated someone in their local community who is giving up December 25 to serve the community. Sarah Holmes, who works at Marie Curie Hospice, will be working on Christmas day. She set up an international knitting circle to knit socks for every single hospice inpatient at Christmas.

The four winners were brought down to London to stay in a hotel, before joining the BBC presenter in the studio for The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show at Wogan House. The heroes had dinner at the Hospital Club, where Zoe films Strictly: It Takes Two, followed by a matinee performance of Lion King: The Musical in the West End.
