A WOMAN remains in hospital today after being hit by a car on a busy Bradford road.

Victoria Exley, 54, who lives on Harrogate Road, was out walking her cavoodle Archie at around 8pm last night when her awful ordeal unfolded.

Her husband Garry, 55, said she was crossing the Greengates lights to go towards the Calverley direction.

"A car came from Calverley and turned right and just carried on and mowed her over," he said.

"I think it stopped briefly and then carried on and went down to Apperley Bridge."

Mrs Exley is still in Leeds General Infirmary today. She has a swollen nose, as well cuts and bruising to her head.

Their neighbour raised the alarm and Mr Exley says he was terrified when he heard the news.

"You don't know how bad it's going to be," he said.

"You just think the worst case scenario."

He rushed to the scene to find her face down, covered with blankets, and a pool of blood surrounding her.

"All the blood was coming out of her nose," he said.

Archie the dog is ok, but was shaken up by what happened.

Mr Exley described the driving as "reckless" and said his wife was feeling angry over the situation.

"It's something that should not have happened," he said.

"Luckily, it's not as bad as what it could have been, but nevertheless it's still going to affect our Christmas."

Despite the ordeal, Mr Exley said the community has rallied around with support.

Police said it is being treated as a fail-to-stop collision.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services attended at Harrogate Road in Bradford at about 7.57pm on Friday night following a collision between a woman and a car.

"The woman suffered a facial injury and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
