THE AIRE and Worth Valley Wanderers are setting off again this month – and you could join them.

Members of the walking group will put their best feet forward every Thursday afternoon from January 9 for local rambles.

The walks, open to all, will take in Riddlesden and Silsden, Bradley and Skipton, Oakworth and Haworth, and Crossflatts and Saltaire.

The Wanderers went on weekly walks last year with support from regeneration group Keighley Big Local and health project Champions Show the Way.

Their success spawned spin-offs including Wednesday evening walks and more ambitious Saturday walks led by popular community development worker Muppett.

While on their treks, group members have identified public rights of way in need of improvement around the River Worth corridor.

Big Local cash has been used to enhance such paths, including those on School Lane, Park Wood, and the Grange estate in Riddlesden, all with support from Bradford Council’s Countryside Service.

An easy walk on January 9 will cover three miles from Riddlesden to Silsden along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Meet at Bar Lane swing bridge at 1.30pm.

An easy walk on January 16 will also follow the canal towpath, for two-and-a-half miles from Bradley to Skipton. Meet at Keighley bus station and catch the 1.05pm 66 Skipton bus, or meet at the bus stop on Keighley Road with its junction with Ings Lane at 1.30pm.

A moderate walk will cover just over three miles on January 23, from Oakworth to Haworth via Station Road and Vale Mill.

Meet at Keighley Bus Station and catch the 1.15pm K7 Oakworth bus to Oakworth Primary School/Station Road or meet at Oakworth Co-op at 1.30pm.

Some footpaths on the route may be muddy. Tea and coffee and cake will be available in Haworth.

An easy walk on January 30 will follow the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath from Crossflatts to Saltaire.

Meet in Keighley bus station and catch the 662 bus at 1.08pm or meet at the junction of Keighley Road/Canal Road in Crossflatts at 1.30pm (Royal Pub).
