OVER 1,200 new members have signed up to join a new leisure centre in its first month.

Sedbergh Sports and Leisure Centre on Cleckheaton Road opened in mid November, replacing nearby Richard Dunn Leisure Centre.

Bradford Council has revealed that as well as almost all of the members of Richard Dunn have moved over to Sedbergh, and 1,200 new users have joined the centre's ClubActive membership scheme.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said: "We have been thrilled to see so many people enjoy the new facilities and become members.

"We are pleased that Sedbergh has proved as popular as we hoped that it would be. We welcome anyone who would like to look around Sedbergh and see what is on offer."

The centre is more energy efficient than Richard Dunn and has more modern facilities.

Richard Dunn's popular water slides controversially did not make the move to the centre, with Sedbergh having a more traditional pool. It also includes an activity pool that with an adjustable depth.

It also includes state of the art gym facilities, fitness studios and outdoor pitches.

The Richard Dunn building will eventually be demolished, with details of the work likely to be announced early in the New Year.
