An Indian dessert dish made by a Bradford bakery is being recalled amid a listeria scare.

People who have bought Rasmalai from Yaadgaar are being told not to eat it but to return the product to the point of sale. And anyone feeling ill is urged to contact their doctor.

The Food Standards Agency has issued a formal food recall notice saying listeria organisms have been found in the product.

Similar to flu, symptoms of listeria include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. Those most at risk are over-65s, pregnant women and their unborn babies, children less than a month old and those with a weakened immune system.

Yaardgaar has recalled the Rasmalai - described as 'a rich cheesecake without the crust'.

The dessert has been sold in four-piece packs with best before dates up to and including January 1 2020.

Yaadgaar have put up notices in all retail outlets selling the product. These notices explain why the product is being recalled and advising on what to do next.

The FSA said: "Our advice to customers is that if you have bought this product, do not eat it. Instead, take it back to the store where it was bought for a full refund. "

Bradford Council echoed the FSA advice. "People should return items to the retailer and contact their GP if they feel unwell," said a spokesman.

The T&A contacted Yaadgaar for comment.

Yaadgaar is based at Acre Mills in Bradford. Founded in 1984 by the Kishver family, the company now employs 115 people and has outlets and franchises across the UK and export markets in Europe.

The firm started with a shop in Legrams Lane and grew from there, to make and distribute Asian sweets and bakery products.

The Yaadgaar website says it maintains the highest standards of on-site hygiene from raw materials through to production, packaging and despatch. It says only the finest produce is used in making breads, desserts, rusks, biscuits and savouries.
