BRADFORD CITY'S promotion push is not the only thing bringing smiles to supporters this season, after players paid visits to patients at local hospitals last week.
Last Thursday, players visited Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) and St. Luke's Hospital, both part of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and gave gifts to youngsters. They also visited elderly patients, including 104-year old May Waters at St. Luke's, and gifted hospital staff with boxes of chocolates.
The club has chosen the Bradford Hospitals' Charity as one of three causes it will be supporting next year, while fans at City's home match on Saturday, where they take on Salford City, are encouraged to 'Sparkle for Axl' with their phone torches aglow. Charity staff will also fundraise with a bucket collection before the game.
The 'Spread Some Sparkle for Axl' campaign is in memory of Axl Walker, a regular patient at BRI until he died just before his third birthday. It is to raise money for Axl's Toy Fund which pays for play equipment, distraction toys and activities for young patients.
