A secondary school with over 1,000 pupils is set to be closed for two days due to the winter vomiting bug.

Whitcliffe Mount School in Tunsteads Avenue, Cleckheaton, will be shut tomorrow (Thursday) and on Friday amid an outbreak of Norovirus.

It is the latest in a succession of schools in Bradford and the surrounding areas to impose an emergency closure.

In a statement, the school said: “Due to an extremely high number of cases of the winter vomiting bug amongst students and staff the school will be closed on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th December 2019 to allow a deep clean to be undertaken. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this decision will cause. We will re-open as normal on Monday 16th December 2019.”
