THE loss of a business and parking issues are concerning objectors to proposals to convert a dance studio in Brighouse into five apartments.

Calderdale councillors will determine the application when they meet next week.

It has been made by the Milan Property Group Limited, which wants carry out alterations to the first floor of a building at 25 Commercial Street in the town centre.

Planning officers are recommending the plans for the premises, which are above a betting shop, be approved when the council’s Planning Committee considers them at Halifax Town Hall on December 17.

But the proposals have attracted 45 letters of objection, on the grounds an existing business would have to relocate and the loss of a dance studio would impact on children who used it and the town centre as a whole, on lack of parking and concerns about enough space for refuse bins.

However officers say the plans meet the council’s planning guidelines and in the case of parking, the area is classed as a town centre and would not raise issues.

There are no material conditions to outweigh a presumption in favour of the development, they say.
