A person, reportedly a young schoolboy, has been hit by a car on Belmont Road and is now in hospital.
Emergency services were called to the street shortly after 8am to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.
Eyewitnesses who were passing the scene this morning say a young boy, believed to go to Sharples School, was knocked down in the incident.
The passersby said the boy looked to be around 11 or 12-years-old and small in stature.
The person has now been taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We sent one ambulance to the scene and treated one patient."
The casualty was taken to hospital with a minor leg injury and police have been made aware of the incident.
