Police have launched an urgent appeal to trace stolen firearms and ammunition after a Bradford man was jailed for more than six years for burgling a house in Gomersal.

Officers are still looking for two guns and around £4,500 worth of bullets and shotgun cartridges taken in the raid.

The appeal follows the jailing of Anthony Brown, 28, of Woodrow Drive, Low Moor, who pleaded guilty at Leeds Crown Court to burglary and seven offences of possession of a prohibited firearm.

Brown was imprisoned for six years and five months after breaking into the house overnight on August 20 with three accomplices.

The gang escaped with £24,000 of property, including jewellery and watches.

The licensed guns and ammunition were in a safe and a cabinet and being kept lawfully at the property.

Five of the guns were recovered but two are missing, along with all of the ammunition.

After the case, Detective Chief Inspector Fiona Gaffney of Kirklees CID, said: “We welcome the sentencing of Brown today and are continuing a number of enquiries into the theft of weapons from a property in the Gomersal area.

“Officers have recovered five of the seven weapons which were taken on that evening and have made a number of arrests in connection with the offence.

“Active enquiries remain ongoing regarding the outstanding ammunition and weapons.

“Firearms offences are taken extremely seriously by West Yorkshire Police and I want to assure residents that every effort is being made to trace the outstanding items.”
