Oswestry Olympians runners had to wade through puddles and thick mud to achieve top times at the recent North Wales Cross Country event in Dolgellau.

In the third round of the series, runners had to put up with some tough weather and course conditions around the new venue.

In a very exciting finish to the men’s race, Olympian Oli Blake sneaked home following a great sprint finish.

Simon Barkley finished second in the men’s 45s category, while Ryan Stokes finished 31st overall on his debut.

In the ladies’ race, Lou Williams led the team home with a respectful 16th place and finished first Female 40s category, and Kate Pugh finished 48th on her Senior debut, and placed third in the under-20s.

There was also reason to celebrate recently for Olympian Steve Roberts who wore his Welsh international vest with pride as he competed in the recent British and Irish Masters international cross country at Aintree.

Steve finished 17th overall in a field of 94 runners, and placed 16th in the men’s over 65s category.
