SILSDEN schoolchildren have bade farewell to a lunchtime supervisor leaving after more than three decades.

Pamela Ogston joined Hothfield Junior School 32 years ago when her own children Tracy and Timothy were pupils.

She has seen her first groups of pupils grow up and send their own children to the same school, now named Silsden Primary School.

Pamela, 65, has retired as a senior supervisor to spend more time at home and on holidays with husband Harold.

Pamela was born and grew up in Killinghall, near Harrogate, marrying Harold, who ran a carpet shop in Skipton.

The couple moved to Silsden to be nearer the business 37 years ago.

She said: "When my children came of school age I wanted wanted something to fill in my time, with time off in the school holidays.

"I got my time here – it's nice to see all the children who have been there from seven years old. Now they're adults they still say hello to me in the street."

Pamela has spent her career at the school site in Hothfield Street, and in 2017 saw it change its name to Silsden Primary School when it merged with nearby Aire View Infants.

Although she has retired from lunchtime duties, she plans to continue her a job as an early-morning morning domestic at a local nursing home.

Pamela added: "I'm going to spend more time with my husband and take my dog out. We enjoy caravanning so we'll go away more."
