COUNCILLORS will decide whether to approve a housing plan for a site in Steeton at a meeting on Thursday.

Proposals to build 11 houses at Holly Fold will go before members of Bradford Council’s Regulatory and Appeals Committee when it meets in City Hall.

And planning officers have recommended the plans be approved.

The application was submitted by Mr Wilkinson in June 2018, and since then 33 people have objected to the plans.

Access into the site will be from Holly Fold, a residential development that has access from Sycamore Grove.

Objections have ranged from criticism of the design of the houses to a loss of view from houses on Holly Fold to concerns about pressure on local services, such as schools.

One objector responded to the plans by saying the three bed homes were not needed. A planning officer has responded to this claim by saying: “The Council’s Core Strategy identifies a need to provide 346 new homes in Steeton with Eastburn up to 2030.”

A report going to the committee acknowledges that schools in the area are already "currently full or overcrowded" but says the development would be accompanied by a payment by the developer towards local services

If the plans are approved, the applicant will be required to pay £25,484, which could be used to improve school provision.

At least 30 per cent of the properties will also have to be classed as affordable.

Referring to concerns over traffic to the site, the report adds: In light of the scale of the development and the availability of alternative transport options the proposed development is not considered to result in a substantial number of additional vehicle trips.

"Consequently the proposed development is not anticipated to have a severe impact on the surrounding highway network in terms of capacity or congestion."

The committee meets at 10am.
