A man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after throwing a pair of ferrets at a vehicle.
The 25-year-old, of no fixed address, was also reported to have used a ferret box to damage a number of cars in Woodfield Road, Harrogate, on Monday.
North Yorkshire Police said the ferrets are now in the care of the RSPCA.
A force spokesman said the man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
He was detained by members of the public after throwing the ferrets and using their box to smash windows and cause dents and scratches to at least a dozen vehicles.
Police appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
