EASTBURN resident Anise Strom received a telegram from the Queen on her recent 100th birthday.

Anise celebrated her centenary with her family and staff at her current home, the village's Croft House Care Home.

Anise was born on November 11 1919, exactly one year after the First World War ended, and she was brought up in Stanley near Wakefield.

Kelly Flaherty, deputy manager at Croft House, said: "Anise moved to Silsden at the age of 18 and this is where her future lay. She got married in 1942 and had two children by 1950. She then moved to Skipton Road then Jacques Grove where she lived for 58 years."

Anise is one of two female residents at Croft House who are over the age of 100.
