FORMER Bradford City manager Stuart McCall was on hand in Bingley on Saturday to assist in turning on the town’s Christmas lights display.

The ex midfielder who also had two playing spells with the Bantams took to the stage to throw the switch as special guest for the town’s festivities.

The event was well attended and took place in the market square with stalls and entertainment.

Town council chairman Cllr Helen Owen said: “It has been a busy day with plenty of activity and visitors. The arts centre was particularly busy with arts and crafts stalls with representatives of lots of local crafts people and charities.

“We were so lucky with the fine weather, too.”

The event had been organised by the chamber of trade and was supported by the town council which supplied the Christmas tree and the Santa gifts for the children.

Also present at the switch-on was Chloe Haran, Year 4 pupil of Eldwick Primary School who had won the town council’s competition to design a Christmas lights feature.
