TWO new bars are opening their doors in Bradford city centre.
Remy International Winebar, on Broadway, and The HideOut at Sunbridge Wells are launching this weekend, adding even more variety to the city’s drinking and night scene.
Cherelle Gooden is behind Remy and is hoping to bring a new vibe to that part of town.
It has been in the pipeline for two years and she is delighted to see her hard work pay off.
She has seen the unit transformed from a building site into a chic, stylish space.
“Once upon a time, Bradford used to be better than Leeds and things change.
“I would like to bring a venue where people can come and relax and enjoy themselves - something quirky and sassy is what I’m trying to bring.”
The bar is getting a boost from a City Centre Growth Scheme Grant from Bradford Council worth £23,000.
And the opening of the bar means a unit which has been empty since 2012 now has a new lease of life, creating six jobs in the process.
Other businesses to receive recent support from the Council’s City Centre Growth scheme include Time Trapped on Hustlergate, Geek Retreat at Bank Street, Nightrain Bar on Queensgate, Rabbit Hole in Westgate, Brick Box rooms on Ivegate and Tiffin Coffee Grande at Charles Street.
Cherelle said she wants to help put Bradford, her hometown “back on the map”.
She added: “I hope others follow suit on the same street and we become the Greek Street of Bradford.”
The bar is having its soft opening this weekend, and in future, there’s plans to host things like a Prosecco afternoon tea.
Meanwhile, up at Sunbridge Wells, The HideOut is also having its launch weekend.
Ben Kearns and business partner Mikee Gemini are behind the venture.
Ben said: “The inspiration behind the HideOut was to add something new and unique to the fast growing Ivegate nightlife scene. The bar is a late-night cocktail lounge, based in the unique setting of Sunbridge Wells.
“Our main aim is to create a venue for good people, with a relaxed atmosphere playing great music such as soul, RnB, commercial and retro.
“In the coming weeks we are looking to introduce bottomless brunch deals, themed events and host several private functions over the Christmas period.”
The opening of the bar will create four part-time jobs and it will be on from Thursday to Sunday from 4pm until 2am.
