MORE than £1 million has been invested to extend and revamp a city centre watering hole.

City Vaults, on Hustlergate, closed for five weeks to allow the refurbishment to get underway and it has now reopened with a fresh new look, giving it a “new lease of life”.

Speaking to the Telegraph & Argus, Project Manager Doug Stewart said: “We are incredibly proud of the recent City Vaults extension and renovation.

“Taking the former Redfern Travel offices and transforming them into two new floors for dining, groups and more all connected through the original City Vaults building has really given the historically popular pub a brand new lease of life.”

He added: “We wanted to create a pub/eatery that people want to visit and that Bradford can be proud of again.

“Taking into consideration the cost of refurbishment works and the purchase of the additional property, there has been over £1m invested into making the City Vaults a place that everyone can enjoy a wide drinks selection, great food and fantastic atmosphere, seven days-a-week from 10am.

“The City Vaults has been a popular pub since its doors opened and we feel that now was the right time to invest in the business to ensure that it remains a popular destination for many years to come.

“We have had total support from the Council and the heritage department throughout this project which enabled us to deliver such an outstanding end result whilst retaining some really interesting original features of the building.”

Mr Stewart said “fantastic firms” have worked on the project and added: “Everyone who worked on the renovation put their all into making it a warm and inviting space to eat and drink, and from the feedback from our customers so far, I think that we’ve really hit the nail on the head.”

When the plans were given the go ahead earlier this year, Bradford businessman Doug McLean, who has a number of pubs in the city, said the aim was to create space for more people as Christmas was a particularly busy time.

And on the Bradford pub scene, he said: “I get the feeling now that there’s a few bars opening in Bradford, and we want them all to do well, because we are of the belief that the more quality venues there are, the more people will come in.

“It’s not competition, because the more there are, the more people will come to Bradford.”
