ONE person had to be rescued from a car this morning after a major motorway crash.

The collision happened at around 7:36am on the northbound carriageway of the M1, between the exit and entry slip road of junction 47 (Garforth).

Two cars were involved and one person was trapped.

Two crews from Killingbeck Fire Station attended and had to free the trapped individual.

Ambulance crews were also at the scene.

Highways England initially closed lanes one and two of the northbound carriageway while the incident was dealt with.

At 7:59am, it enforced an up-and-over closure.

The traffic collision was then cleared just under an hour later at 8:51am, with the carriageway re-opening.
