AN Incommunities tenant has been ordered to pay compensation of £500 towards the damage he caused when he smashed windows and a door frame at his home.

Jonathan Green, 45, of Harwood Road, Keighley, admitted causing criminal damage to the property on October 28.

Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court was told police had been called after neighbours heard objects being thrown around and windows smashing at the property. A microwave oven was thrown through a window, along with other items.

Prosecutor David Ward said when challenged by officers he threatened to cut his own throat and was found holding a shard of glass. Mr Ward said social housing provider Incommunities had estimated the cost of the damage to be around £1,000.

Mitigating, Ansar Khan said his client had a history of mental health issues and that this occasion had been a ‘cry for help’.

“This was a medical episode and the offence was committed on impulse. He has since received help from his GP and is much more stable now,” said Mr Khan.

Green was given a 12 month conditional discharge and a £21 surcharge.
