With its varied blend of dance music and live entertainment Mickeys was the top spot for those looking to stay out until the early hours of the morning. Based on the first floor of a corner building at the junction of Barry Street and Grattan Road, Mickeys was run by joint tenants Kieran Whitaker and Paul Haddington.
On the ground floor the Backstage Bar, first opened in 1979 at the former Castle Hotel. Open seven nights a week with normal licensing hours.
Originally the first-floor premises had been opened as Upstage before becoming Oscars in 1982. Now the establishment, a Webster’s house had been given a fresh start as Mickeys.
Who remembers this 80s nightspot?
