CENTREPOINT, the UK’s leading homeless charity, estimates that over 2,000 people aged between 16-25 are at risk of homelessness in Yorkshire and the Humber this Christmas.
The charity collected data from local authorities and spoke to more than 200 young people who have experienced homelessness.
72 per cent of those surveyed said that homelessness negatively impacted their mental health, while 69 per cent said they felt no one cared about them. Hidden homelessness is also a problem, with 73 per cent polled saying they have sofa surfed.
To raise funds and awareness, Centrepoint is holding its annual Sleep Out at Bradford City’s Valley Parade tomorrow.
Seyi Obakin, Centrepoint CEO, said, “We need to take urgent action to protect vulnerable young people and make sure every young person has a safe place to call home.”
