THE OCCUPANTS of a BMW 3 Series had a lucky escape on the M62 this afternoon.

As these pictures show their car was left badly damaged.

Police tweeted that the vehicle was hit by another vehicle which had spun out of control on the eastbound carriage at junction 25.

It caused them to collide with the bridge barrier, "which luckily did its job".

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service reported that two cars were involved with one person trapped.

Extrication was carried out by fire service personnel and the casualty was transferred to hospital by ambulance.

Appliances from Rastrick and Huddersfield attended.

The scene is now clear and the carriageway has been fully reopened.
