A MOBILE gallery of curious and surprising medical objects is coming to Lister Park.

An ‘Emergency Museum’ ambulance from the Thackray Medical Museum and will be parked close to the Bradford Council-run Cartwright Hall Art Gallery in the park on Sunday November 24 from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

The ambulance is on the road due to the Thackray Medical Museum being temporarily closing for redevelopment.

The special ambulance, which was adopted when it was retired from Yorkshire Ambulance Service is full of quirky collections.

The Emergency Museum has been “prescribing” fun at a range of events throughout the year, including Countryfile LIVE at Castle Howard and has a teddy bear hospital, interactive games and other activities delivered by the ambulance crew.

With engaging exhibits situated inside a real ambulance, the emergency museum is an immersive experience for all ages and people can even take a selfie in the driver’s seat.

Hidden compartments will house objects from Thackray’s collection alongside other ambulance equipment, old and new, uncovering what happens during some of the most common ambulance service callouts.

Sonja Kielty, Curator (Exhibitions) at Cartwright Hall said: “This fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the ambulance will give visitors a unique insight into the lifesaving work of the emergency services. It blends the present day with the past, showing how healthcare has dramatically changed over the years and we’re looking forward to the ambulance coming to the park and civic art gallery.”
