HAIR and beauty business is booming in Bradford and three major players battled it out at the glitzy event on Sunday evening.

Kirsty O'Reilly set up with a Prince's Trust loan and now has clients fly in from across the world.

Meanwhile, Creative Hair Studio, in Shipley, was also shortlisted.

The hairdressers specialises in cuts, colouring and "up-dos" for every occasion, including celebrity weddings.

It was Marios though that was unveiled as the winner.

The journey began in 1950 - when the family firm's first salon was opened in Forster Square Train Station.

Now, the family runs two branches and the story has culminated in scooping this prestigious award.

Company Director, Adrian De Luca, said: "It's fantastic, amazing, we’re honoured. This is what we’re in business for, but it’s not just about us.

"We’ve been in business for 70 years, it’s about everybody that works with us.

"They’re the reason we’re successful and they’re the reason we’ve been going for 70 years.

"Their hard work and dedication and our clients who have been loyal.

"Throughout the years they’ve been with us the whole way and they’ve turned into close friends."

Mr De Luca dedicated the award to his cousin, Antonio De Luca, who runs the Market Street salon.

He said: "Unfortunately, he tried to come tonight, but he’s very ill, and he’s devastated he can’t come that’s why I wanted to dedicate that award towards him."

The salon has tradition and history at its heart - it is as much about providing a top quality service, as it is sharing tales and keeping the family story alive.

This is epitomised by a memory shared by the Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Doreen Lee.

She remembers going into the salon and paying half a crown for a "Pixie" cut.

Salon Manager, Bobby Kachholia, has also played a major part in the success of Marios over the years.

The business is like one big family and this is something the third generation of the clan is hoping to continue.

Lucy Corradini, Managing and Colour Director at the Kirkgate Branch said: "I feel incredibly honoured to keep it on.

"I’ve got very big shoes to fill, but I’m lucky that I’ve got my uncle by my side, continually guiding me and he’s like my life guru and with the support of Bobby, who’s been with us since 1991.

"We’re all one big family, we just work together and it’s incredible."
