MCDONALD'S workers have gone on strike as part of an international day of action for fast food workers’ rights.

Members of the Bakers Food and Allied Workers’ Union (BFAWU) are calling for a ‘New Deal’ for McDonald’s workers including £15 an hour pay, an end to lower youth pay rates, the choice of guaranteed hours of up to 40 hours a week, notice of shifts four weeks in advance, and trade union recognition.

Jo Pike, Shipley Constituency Labour Party candidate, supported workers at the McStrike action taking place at the Shipley McDonald's.

She said: "Fast food workers are some of the most exploited workers in the country.

"Because they are young, they are paid poverty wages by huge multinational companies like McDonald's, who think they can rip them off.

"Well, McDonald's needs to think again. As we head towards 2020, it's about time we put an end to this and started paying people a real living wage"
