THE expansion of a Bradford community centre has been approved by planners.

Scholemoor Beacon Community Centre on Dracup Avenue was built in the 1960s, and earlier this year plans to improve the building were submitted to Bradford Council.

The application said the changes would modernise the dated building.

The expansion, a 63 square metre, single storey extension, will allow for the creation of a new entrance, reception, office and multi-purpose room for the centre.

Community centre in Manningham 'designed to make a statement' approved by Council

The scheme was approved by planning officers yesterday.

They said: "The proposed single storey front extension will be appropriately designed and will not represent any visual harm within the wider street scene or local environment."

The centre provides a range of services, working alongside the local community and in partnership with other organisations. It includes outdoor sports facilities.
