A ceremony was held this morning at Bradford Cenotaph to mark Armistice Day.

On this day 101 years ago - on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 o'clock - the guns fell silent. The Armistice which had been signed six hours before brought to an end the Great War.

Today's short service was led by The Reverend Canon Paul Maybury, Precentor at Bradford Cathedral, and was attended by veterans, members of the Royal British Legion, Bradford Council representatives and other dignitaries.

Revd Canon Maybury said: "We meet in the presence of God on this day to commit ourselves anew to working for reconciliation between the nations, that all people may live together in freedom, justice and peace.

"We pray for all who in bereavement, disability and pain continue to suffer the consequences of fighting and terror, for civilians who live in fear, for refugees, widows and orphans.

"We remember with thanksgiving and sorrow those whose lives have been given and taken away in two world wars and past conflicts anf for those who have died recently in Iraq and Afghanistan and commend them to the mercy of God."
