CHRISTMAS fever will get an icy touch this weekend.

Bradford Business Improvement District (BID) and sculpture specialists Sand In Your Eye (SIYE) are teaming up once again to put on a interactive carving display.

From 11am, on November 9, sculptors from SIYE will begin creating an ice-sculpture, in the mold of a life-size Santa sleigh.

It will all take part on Broadway, just outside the shopping centre.

Once it is complete, the public will have the chance to get photos of the masterpiece.

People will even be invited to get selfies and photos in the sleigh itself.

Jonny Noble, Bradford BID manager, said: "It’s fascinating to watch the way they create such intricate pieces of art out of solid blocks of ice and we know from previous ice events that they are really popular with children and parents alike."

Despite the chill, the event will act as a warm-up for the Christmas Light's Switch-On.

That kicks-off at 6:30pm at The Broadway Shopping Centre and includes a range of new lighting projects, paid for by the business levy-funded BID.

BID chairman Ian Ward said: "The Sparkling Bradford Christmas Lights switch-on will be better than ever this year and there are lots of events going on in the build up to it and throughout the festive season.

"We thought this fabulous ice-sculpting event would be the perfect way to kick things off on our festive launch day and it will provide some great social media photo opportunities to get families in the Christmas mood."
