A NEW head chef has been appointed at The Burlington restaurant at The Devonshire Arms Hotel, Bolton Abbey.

Peter Howarth, who starts this month, was in his earlier days a sous chef at The Devonshire. He has also previously been head chef at The Samling, Windermere, which held three AA rosettes; head chef at , Gidleigh Park and The Latymer, both of which held two Michelin stars and five AA rosettes.

He was also at the two Michelin starred Winteringham Fields, and the Michelin-starred Longueville Manor, in Jersey.

A love of travel has impacted on his cooking style, which he describes as 'modern British with world influences'.

The Devonshire Arms, however, is familiar territory for Peter, who was previously at the hotel for three years as Sous Chef to Michael Wignall.

Peter said: “For me it’s like coming home, after having been at The Devonshire Arms during my early career, it’s now come full circle to be here now.

"I’m able to bring the experience I have enjoyed of travelling overseas, as well as working with some of the UK’s finest restaurants; it’s an exciting time and it just feels right."

He has accrued a fabulous repertoire of experience and is joining at a dynamic time for the business. "The Burlington has benefitted from Paul Leonard’s first-class tenure for more than two years, during which time it has regained its fourth rosette, among many more accolades; the baton is being passed over now for Peter to continue the upward journey."
