AN empty unit on a listed Keighley street can be converted into a micropub after new plans were approved.

Plans to convert 14 Cavendish Street, which has been vacant for over six months, into a 50 square metre drinking establishment had been submitted to Bradford Council in September.

The application, by Liam Bowness, was approved earlier this week.

Cavendish Street is a row of 38 Victorian shops that are Grade II listed, and is seen as one of Keighley’s most important heritage features.

Planning officers said the changes would not harm the streets character. They added: “This small scale drinking establishment will contribute to a range of offerings in the street and it is not considered that it will prejudice its viability as a shopping area.

“It will contribute in a small way to boosting the economy by bringing a disused unit into use and contributing to the variety of services in the area.”

One condition of the application is that the pub would have to shut at midnight.
