A SHOCKING video has emerged of fireworks being thrown at motorists.

The incident unfolded on Oak Lane, Manningham, at around 7pm last night.

Shiraz Hussain, who uploaded the video to YouTube, said it was "disgusting behaviour".

He told the Telegraph & Argus that police arrested a youth who threw a firework at motorists and while this was taking place, another round of fireworks was thrown.

"It's only by luck that no motorist was injured," he said.

"The intent was there to injure someone.

"Frankly, I was shocked at the actions of the offending youths. Where are the parents and the community leaders?

"I think the Pakistani community needs to reflect on these actions by its youth - is this all we have to offer?

"This paints a very negative image of the community.

"I take no pleasure in reporting this, as I am too of Pakistani origin. But enough is enough now. We need answers from parents and community leaders as to why our youth engage in such behaviour."

The 38-year-old father said it could have been "catastrophic".

He said: "I'm worried and concerned about the future. This is totally unacceptable."

The Bradford West Neighbourhood Policing Team said many police officers were in the area to try and challenge this behaviour, along with youth services and councillors.

Five young people were arrested on Oak Lane and all now have a 6pm until 6am curfew until November 6.

An anti-social behaviour dispersal power has also been put in place to prevent groups of youths congregating on Oak Lane. This started last night and will last for 48 hours.

A firework shop also failed a test purchase by a minor and the keeper will be attending an interview under caution today, as police look to revoke the shop's licence.

“As can be seen in the video, these are not small fireworks," said the Bradford West NPT.

"Our team and the public could have been easily seriously injured.

"Please parents, if your child doesn’t return home at the elected time, don’t keep ringing them- get out and look for them."

Meanwhile, the Bradford East Neighbourhood Policing Team said its officers were patrolling the Bradford Moor area, where a number of youths were throwing fireworks at vehicles.

Officers managed to seized a large number of fireworks for destruction.

Inayah Sher, of the Bradford 4 Better (B4b) Community Action Group, said it had received stacks of complaints about the Oak Lane incident and firework throwing in other parts of the city.

She said: "I had a relative visiting my house last night. A young mother who was travelling in her car with her three-month-old baby on Oak Lane, terrified she was when she arrived after a lit firework was thrown under her moving car.

"They could have killed her. And her baby.

"And that's just one report. How much more serious does it need to get before we do something?

"Do they not realise the consequences of their pathetic dangerous behaviour, a driver could lose control of their car and crash by trying to avoid a firebomb attack."

She added: "And then this lawless behaviour impacts on everyone, I believe that Bradford is now the country’s worst insurance blackspot for this very reason

"Everyone has to pay insurance premiums many time greater than any where else because of the irresponsible actions of the few. We must not stay quiet and hope for problems to go away.

"It is time for each of us to take charge of our communities, report criminal behaviour and work with the authorities to respect and protect each other's lives and properties."

She said the group would like to "highly commend our incredibly brave and hard working emergency services who were last night out in full force protecting people, homes, businesses and property".

"B4b condemns this mindless behaviour which endangers life and property," she said.

"These children who are taking part in such destructive behaviour must have parents or carers who should be held accountable, there are too many families that turn a blind eye to lawlessness.

"B4b is committed to working with any partner who can help to minimise the damage and chaos caused by these fireworks on the streets of Bradford."

New driver Kathy Coulton, 40, from Allerton, was driving on Oak Lane at the time the fireworks were thrown.

She was driving home with her children in the car, coming home from a Halloween party.

"I had my windows open at the time it's lucky one didn't come in the car," she said.

"It was so loud that it made me jump and scream.

"My youngest has autism so it took me a while to calm her down once home, then I phoned police."

She said she had been left shaken up and that fireworks need to be at planned, organised events.

"Kids these days think it's fun to cause people upset and scare them to death," she added.
