THERE'LL be a chance to take a walk on the spiritual side when a new tearoom with a twist opens in Bradford city centre.

The Spirit of Bradford Tearoom, in Karma on Darley Street, opens its doors today and will host a whole range of events to help people delve into their spiritual side - all while supping a brew and enjoying a slab of homemade cake.

It's the brainchild of business partners Karen Hodgson, 49, who will be reading cards in the tearoom, and Barrie Naylor, 53.

Barrie said: "Karma has been here about three/three-and-a-half years and it's just evolved in that time. We've always had psychic readers, tarot card readers, angel card readers and they always seem to bring people with them.

"I thought it would be nice to have tea, coffee, fresh homemade cakes and buns so they can sit down, chat, chill out."

There'll be tarot card readings, angel card readings, tea leaf readings, Reiki and more, with the specials board giving a run-down on who's in on that particular day.

Readings can vary in time and both walk-in slots and booked-in readings will be available. There will also be private and quiet rooms available. The pair will only bring reputable people in, who have regular clients and customers.

Barrie added: "This place is very haunted, because of it, we do get a lot of spiritual people in. A lot of people tell me they see the spirits, they see the ghosts, they feel the energy."

Speaking about her own experience of card reading, Karen said: "You've got to be extremely careful because you do know stuff and you've got to be very careful on how you put it to somebody.

"You don't want to go breaking their heart. Once you've given the message, it's theirs then and you might be helping somebody go through something, like a death in the family.

"It's really moving, it's emotional and it really is rewarding."

She added: "It is a gift and it's a gift you just keep on giving to people.

"There has been a time where I have said 'I won't do it ever again', because I've seen the heartache it has caused with the messages I've given, but then somebody else has come in and I've given them a fabulous, lovely message. To see somebody come in, that's got a problem, and then go out and feel a lot better, it's very rewarding."

Barrie: "I just want people to come and try it, just come in, they can walk in, they can walk around - they don't have to feel pressured to do anything. Just come in, walk round, get a feel for the place."

People will also be able to work on their own gift with open and closed circles and there'll be events like medium nights for people to experience.
