THREE pieces of Bradford art have been shortlisted on a list of 10 for a regional award.

The Yorkshire 2019 Land Art Competition celebrates the creative talents of groups and individuals who have crafted masterpieces that can be seen from the sky.

All three of Bradford's land art pieces were produced for the UCI Road World Championships, with the help of Bradford Council.

The "Broad-ford" piece is one of those included on the list (above).

It features a woman from Queensbury Queens of the Mountains Cycling Club following the UCI's rainbow bands in and out of a ford and was created in Lister Park and on a Bradford Grammar School field.

It was created by the Fields of Vision Team and Bradford Grammar School, with support from Bradford Council.

The other two pieces were "Fish on a bicycle", off Coach Road, in Shipley and "Baildon Welcomes The World" near Hollins Hall Hotel.

Re-using rubbish was the inspiration for "Fish on a bicycle", with the shape created from waste commonly pulled from the nearby River Aire.

Sculpture specialists Sand in Your Eye (SIYE) formed the outline.

Getting the materials and pulling them together was facilitated by a number of groups including: Bradford Council’s drainage and recycling teams, the Environment Agency, The Aire Rivers Trust and litter-picking and plastic free groups in Saltaire.

The "Baildon Welcomes The World" piece was created by artists Tim Curtis and Luke Owens (Proper Cycling) with children from all five Baildon Schools (Titus Salt School, Baildon CE, Sandal Primary, Hoyle Court Primary and Glenaire Primary).

It was produced in collaboration with Saltaire Gym Club, The Hollins Hall Hotel, Baildon BIG, Baildon Town Council, Bradford Council and Baildon Belles WI.

The art depicts a bike - with the town's name underneath - and was animated by children and organisers moving a multicoloured parachute round and round.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places, said three Bradford pieces getting shortlisted was excellent news.

She added: "The land art produced for the UCI Road World Championships event this year was spectacular and the work put in by all those involved in creating these three pieces was tremendous.

"Let’s all get voting for the pieces shortlisted in Bradford, as they all truly deserve to win."

The other seven land art pieces to be nominated are as follows:

  • Carperby (Richmondshire)
  • Catterick Garrison (Richmondshire)
  • Harrogate High School (Harrogate)
  • Harrogate Majestic Hotel (Harrogate)
  • Masham (Harrogate)
