THERE was more mayhem at Bradford Forster Square Railway Station this afternoon.

All lines were blocked due to a fault with the signalling system at the station, but it has since been solved.

The disruption began at 12:56pm today and impacted people trying to get to the likes of Shipley and Leeds, and coming into Bradford.

The issue was expected to last until 3:45pm, but the signal failure was fixed at 3:11pm.

Services were back to normal at around 3:34pm.

A replacement bus service between Bradford and Shipley had been requested at one point.

Just yesterday, a points failure at 7:10am led to five hours of disruption to some services heading in and out of Bradford Forster Square.

Signal failures can happen for a number of reasons.

It could be due to a power cut, or a blown fuse in the circuit.

A "fail-safe" system is in operation to prioritise safety.

The Network Rail website states: "Our network is designed so that if something stops working, such as a signal or a set of points, trains will stop before they reach it.

"So if there’s a power failure, the signal goes black and the driver knows not to pass a signal unless it has a green or yellow light; and if a point fails, the last signal before the set of points affected will automatically turn red so no trains pass."
