AN investigation is underway after one of the newly installed Craven boundary signs went missing.
The sign, on the A56 at Wysick Hill, between Earby and Thornton-in-Craven, is believed to have gone sometime around Wednesday this week.
Just the pole it was mounted on remains in place.
The sign had been the subject of criticism from people in West Craven that it was in the wrong place and not on the Craven boundary.
A Craven District Council spokesman said: “We’re still investigating the mystery of the missing sign. If it is not returned then we will have to consider replacing it."
Funding for the sign, which is one of 16 put up at the start of last month, ahead of the UCI Cycling World Championships, came from the Great Place: Lakes and Dales programme, in partnership with Craven District Council.
GPLD programme manager Lindsey Hebden said: “The signs, designed by a young, locally-based artist, send a message that Craven is a place where young people and art are encouraged. We hope that this can be resolved quickly.”
