CLIMATE campaigners from Keighley and Oxenhope held an awareness-raising stall in Hebden Bridge to tie in with the Extinction Rebellion demonstrations in London.

Animal Rebellion members highlighted their belief that the animal farming and fishing industries are the leading contributors to climate problems.

Animal Rebellion is a branch of Extinction Rebellion, and shares the same key demands that the government declare a climate emergency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero, and create a citizens' assembly on climate and ecological justice.

Group spokesman Anne Taylor said: "Taking action must include transitioning to a plant-based food system as many scientists and researchers are telling us.

"One study carried out by Joseph Poore at Oxford University assessed the impact of our present food system, concluding that 'a vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, land use and water use'.

He said it was far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car, as these only cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The stall was supported by members of 3 Valley Vegans, based in the Calder Valley, who offer information and cookery demonstrations.
